Firstly, Choose a Work Based Issue to focus Part A upon Some examples of work based issues focused on for the assignment by previous students Investigating shortfalls in a service or service delivery Complaint investigations/ procedures e.g. discharge from critical care to general wards etc. Oxygen toxicity & the use of oxygen in post-operative cardiac surgery patients Devising a protocol for clinical triage within a team Improving compliance in documentation Establishing clinical supervision in a team Managing communication difficulties within a team Implementing a rota change Implementation of a sepsis tool Suggested content for Part A Briefly introduce yourself and your current role (do not mention the Trust you are employed with –maintain confidentiality throughout). Examine definitions of leadership and management and the critical discussions concerning these. Consider and examine the role of leadership in health care e.g. team working, patient safety, quality services, communication. Include some critical examination of contem‌‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍porary leadership styles. Consider how leadership sustains a learning culture and develops an organisation. Introduce your work based issue and provide a little background. Define what action learning is and discuss its role in organisational development. Consider how action learning might assist you in identifying appropriate leadership strategies for addressing your work based issue e.g. leadership style, communication, team working, learning about your problem and the influence of organisational culture etc. In relation to your work based issues, what did you learn about your own leadership style? Pull Section A together to create a conclusion. Part B Critically reflect on your personal learning style and how this impacts upon your current role.
