This Signature Assignment is designed to measure EPAS 2008 educational competency E.P. 2.1.8: Engage in policy practice to advance social and economic well-being and to deliver effective social work services. Practice Behaviors: Analyze, formulate, and advocate for policies that advance social well-being and Collaborate with colleagues and clients for effective policy action.
Drawing from the topics discussed in this course, this assignment asks you to discuss how you would work collaboratively with colleagues and clients to develop and advocate for a policy solution to a particular social welfare problem.
Use APA style in the text of your response and in your reference list. Use at least three references. For example, a textbook, a professional research journal article, a newspaper article (that uses cited evidence in the article), a research-based website, etc. Use headings or titles to identify your answers to each of the questions in this assignment.
Identify the social welfare issue that you would like to address and a specific current policy that addresses this issue. (2-3 pages). Include:
Provide evidence of the scope and impact of this problem and cite your sources for this evidence using APA style.
Describe the main focus of the policy that you select. For example, how does it address the problem? Through education, treatment, direct cash assistance, research, etc. Provide an example of this focus.
Discuss how you, as a social worker, could collaborate with colleagues and clients for effective policy action in this area. (3-4 pages). Include:
Which colleagues, leaders, and clients would you solicit for support or engage in work on this policy and why? Identify at least 3 groups/individuals that you might collaborate with. For example, other social workers, a community group, government official, community leader, etc. A general description of the group or individual/position is sufficient. Explain why/how they would be helpful to work with on this policy.
What approach or activities would you engage in to move towards action with these groups or this person on this issue? Describe at least 3 social work roles, interventions, actions, or approaches that you would apply. Define these approaches and provide at least one example of how you would apply each of these approaches.
