This scholarly work must represent the breadth, depth, and original thinking of the student and based on the student’s findings in the previous assignments. Your annotated assignment(is attached)should be helpful as you prepare your paper. Your paper should clearly explicate the state of the knowledge/science of one phenomenon of interest and target population. You must include the following components.

Abstract. (250 word limit). Put exact number of words in parentheses (XXX words) following your summary. The abstract is required or eight points subtracted.

Body of paper:

  1. First, your introduction (10%) should describe the phenomenon and provide a brief outline of the major areas to be presented.
  2. Second, identify the components of the literature search you conducted for your annotated bibliography assignment (i.e., years searched, key words, databases used, other methods such as hand searches and secondary reference lists from relevant journal articles and research studies) (10%).
  3. Third, trace the history of the theory from the nursing literature and/ related “parent” theories from other disciplines (15%) .
  4. Fourth, identify at least three conceptual or theoretical or methodological (research) issues/ problems that you have uncovered during your literature review (40%).
  5. Fifth, write a summary addressing the state of the science with respect to your phenomenon in general addressing a theory and your phenomenon plus analysis and evaluation of theoretical-conceptual-empirical-methodological linkages and ideas for future research (20%).

Your paper should be in APA format with title page, abstract, subheadings, and references including a majority of primary sources from peer reviewed, scientific journals, double-spaced, and Times New Roman 12 font (5%).

The paper should not exceed 10 pages, excluding title page, abstract, references, tables, and figures.

Grading rubric for State of Knowledge Paper: Use the following headings (bolded below c-g) to keep you focused and to the reader (your professor) through your paper. Note, if you are limited to 10 pages, you may have a shorter paper, but the paper can be no longer than 10 pages. You should consider percentages as you write. For example, do not make the introduction (10%) longer than your three issues (40%). Note that the longest (and most important) part of your paper are the three conceptual, theoretical, and/or methodological issues (40%). You may add more than three issues but must discuss at least three.

  • Title page. One point off if omitted.
  • Abstract. (250 word limit). Eight points off if omitted. Your abstract is an abbreviation of your paper and is constructed from your outline and after you have completed your paper. Bold each element of your abstract as follows.
    • Background (Introduce your topic)
    • Literature search
    • History of the theory
    • Identify three conceptual or theoretical or methodological (research) issues.
    • Summary.
  • Introduction = 10%–approximately one page
  • Component of the literature search = 10%– approximately one page
  • Historical evolution of the theory = 15%–approximately one-two pages
  • Three conceptual, theoretical, and/or methodological issues present in the literature or that you have identified = 40%–approximately three-four pages
  • Summary of the state of science addressing a theory and your phenomenon plus analysis and evaluation of theoretical-conceptual-empirical-methodological linkages and to include implications for future research — 20%–approximately two pages
  • Format, APA, quality of the literature = 5%
