The product transfer system.
Compute the uncertainty in the pump increase in head for Problem 26 in Chapter 1.
Problem 26
The product transfer system shown in Fig. P1-26 is used to move benzene from a storage tank at a plant to a tank farm at a nearby shipping facility. The benzene is stored at 60°F.All pipes are schedule 40 and are made of commercial steel.
(a) Find the pump increase in head and power output required to pump 1,800 gpm when the plant tank is empty (ele. 97 ft) and the shipping facility tank is full (ele.150 ft).
(b) Find the flow rate and power output for the pump specified in part (a) when the plant tank is full (ele. 130 ft) and the shipping facility tank is empty.
(c) Find the pressure at the pump inlet (suction) for the situations in parts (a) and (b).
(d) For the situations in (a) and (b), what are the minimum pump increases in head if pipe size is unlimited? What does this say about the economics of pipe size and pumping through elevations?
