What countries will be the future leaders and power brokers?.

Although you do not have additional textbook chapters to read this week, Chapter 14 addresses labor relations in other countries and the impact of multiculturalism on our own workplace.
Please view Hans Rosling’s three dimensional statistics of health and wealth over 200 years. Keep in mind that among other factors, health and wealth including a stable middle class income are basic to the advancement of a nation. You have previously viewed the video on the Rise of China, consider whether our westernized version of capitalism will continue. Consider whether Africa will overcome health issues and continue to gain international economic stability
Considering Han’s data, briefly predict what you think might unfold over the next 25 years and how it might impact:
1. Capitalism: What countries will be the future leaders and power brokers?
2. Multiculturalism and multinational corporations: What preparation will HR leaders need?
4. Labor Relations: How will the strength of unions evolve?

What one issue do you believe is the most “pressing” or significant for HR practitioners in 2014?
Impact of Technology
There are different factors that are significant to HR Professionals in 2014. However, I believe the most pressing is the continuous and diverse effect of technology on businesses and HR practice to be specific. Technology has evolved to a great extent, affecting the demand for human resource and its functions. Technology and its continuous improvement can be seen in areas of self-service and connecting remote locations through communication networks. There are automated self-activities created for employees to utilize that was previously handled by HR professionals. Technology has created a virtual environment with the capacity for effective online recruitment. It has also made possible virtual classrooms with the capability for training of new hires remotely. Through the creation of digital imaging, easy access and retrieval of documents is achievable, saving time and money. The improvement of technology can be applied to HR in areas such as assessing employee performance using metrics from computer software. The impact of technology on HR is immense and will continue to transform its operations.

What one issue do you believe is the most “pressing” or significant for HR practitioners in 2014?
One issue I see facing human resources practitioners in 2014 may be getting qualified candidates to fill shortest. I say this because most employees are looking for experienced employees and ones that have some technology skills such as working with computers and the ability to perform more than one task and learn new things quickly.

I agree the continual advancements in technology will transform all aspects of business. I believe HR will continue to move in a “generalist” direction because technology will enable employers to expect HR functions to be handled by fewer staff who possess a level expertise in every aspect of HR. Specializing in benefits administration, recruitment, or labor relations is not as cost effective as hiring HR professionals who have knowledge and proven ability in all areas. The facility where I’ve worked in HR for some time now has begun to automate many functions. Benefits open enrollment will be done on line for the first time in 2014. We are currently looking at performance assessment software. Interviews of out-of-town candidates are done via SKYPE. Employees in certain specialty areas such as IT and Billing are able to work from home or other remote locations. HR professionals have to stay in tune with these technological advancements in order to compete in today’s job market.
